Fire Hydrant System
Fire hydrants are classified into several varieties based on their location, size, and function. Here are some of the most frequent types of fire hydrants:
Pillar Hydrant: A vertical pipe with a water exit at the top that is normally seen on the side of the road or in the yard of a building.
Underground Fire Hydrants: Underground fire hydrants feature a cover plate that may be removed to access the water outlet.
Wet Barrel Fire Hydrant: This type of hydrant is often utilized in warmer areas and has a valve at the base that opens to allow water to flow out of the hydrant.
Dry Barrel Fire Hydrant: Commonly used in colder areas, this hydrant has a valve at the top that opens to enable water to flow out.
High-Pressure Hydrants: These hydrants are intended to deliver high-pressure water flow in industrial or commercial applications.
Fire hydrants in Malaysia are color-coded to distinguish between public and private hydrants, according to BOMBA.
The red coating is applied to public fire hydrants that are not owned by any private property and are often found on the side of the road or in other public spaces.
The yellow coating, on the other hand, is utilized for private fire hydrants erected by private properties such as industries, commercial buildings, or residential structures.
